HowTo: Windows Vista & Win7 OpenVPN Setup Tutorial

The setup for Windows 7 and Windows Vista requires the installtion of Open VPN GUI. Download free OpenVPN GUI (with password save) and install it on your PC. You should press Allow the User Access Control window shows the An unidentified program wants to access your computer message.

You can download it also from OpenVPN download page (openvpn-2.1.4-install.exe), but it’s not with password save option.

Note that this tutorial was made for OpenVPN 2.1.4 version but it should be the same as for old/new one.

Press then install. If the following window is shown select Install this driver software anyway.

The you need to unzip online vpn free configuration files according to your package. Go to C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config, for example you have US/UK/NL package then you need US-UK-NL.zip or US-UK-NL-IP.zip files to unzip.

After you’ll extract configuration files you’ll find hideipvpn-password file, edit with notepad and replace username and password words with your VPN username and password.

Note, if you downloaded OpenVPN for "openvpn" site then this version do not support password save option, you need to download the configuration files from here to the following folder: C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config. Unzip the config file. You should see a new folder with config files.

If your OS is VISTA! Set OpenVPN Gui to run as Administrator.

Go to the desktop OpenVPN icon and right-click on it.
